Surety Association of Ohio
4th Quarter Meeting Minutes
December 5, 2002
Mark Drengler, President, opened the meeting at 12:30 PM with approximately
50 people in attendance at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dublin, OH.
Eric Schmidt, Legislative Committee Chairman, reported that the Surety
Association and Surety Federation were unsuccessful with being able
to get the State of Ohio to continue to require auctioneers to have
an auctioneer’s bond. The State has set up a state pool/guaranteed
fund to pay out losses. The State set up this program to be used by
auctioneers in lieu of a bond.
Eric Schmidt also reported for Marc Oravecz on the web site. The
web site is up and running with the following web address: www.ohiosurety.com.
One concern is the membership roster being posted on the web site.
This would give headhunters, etc. easy access to information. It is
still to be determined if this information will be posted. Eric encouraged
members to utilize the web site, as it will have legislative issues,
education, upcoming events, hot topics, links, and the by-laws. The
goal to have the web site up and running by 12-31-02 will be met.
Next Jim Ziogos from AIG Environmental in Cleveland, OH and John
Lind from Lasko & Lind, an attorney from Cleveland, spoke on Mold
and how it could affect our industry.
We then had a guest motivational speaker, Earle Bruce, former Ohio
State Buckeyes Football Coach.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM. The next meeting will be held
in March ’02 in Cleveland, OH. The date and time will be announced
at a later date. We will be trying to get Lynn Schubert from the National
Office of the SAA out of Washington D.C. to speak to our group. The
board then met in executive session to plan the next meeting and discuss
board related matters.
