Surety Association of Ohio
3rd Quarter Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2003
Jack Kehl, Education Chairperson, opened the lunch meeting at Noon with approximately 50 members in attendance at the Ramada Plaza Hotel – Roberts Convention Centre in Wilmington, OH.
Gayle McClellan, Membership Chairperson, gave a membership update. She advised members to go the SAO web site for any updates.
Jack Kehl then discussed H.B. 208 being eliminated and a new substitute bill is being introduced. These House Bills are dealing with retainage with subcontractors. The passage of this bill will allow subcontractors to be able to get their retainage upon completion of their portion of work rather than wait until the entire project is completed.
Jack Kehl gave an education committee update. Elizabeth Treyton from the University of Dayton was awarded the SAO scholarship for ’03. Still trying to strive to get 10 presentations completed in ’03, so we can be recognized by the SAA at their annual meeting in ’04. Jack did request for someone to give a presentation at the University of Akron to the American Highway Engineers Association.
Bill Wildenheim gave the treasurer’s report. We set up a separate checking account for the scholarship fund. We currently have $12,500 in the regular checking account and $5,000 in the scholarship checking account. Bill noted $1,000 would be awarded to Elizabeth Treyton soon for her fall ’03 semester.
Jack Kehl then introduced our guest speaker, Bruce Curtis, from the State Architect’s Office. Bruce is the manager of special services and gave us an update on the State’s new front-end documents, updated forms, and updated contracts.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:30PM. The next meeting will be held in Columbus, OH in December ’03. This will be our annual Holiday gathering and the date and time will be announced at a later date.
