Surety Association of Ohio 1st Quarter Meeting Minutes March 10, 2004
Mark Oravecz, Vice President, opened the meeting at 12:30PM with approximately 80 people in attendance at the Holiday Inn Cleveland South in Independence, OH.
Jack Kehl, education Chairperson, gave an update that our Association received the Gold Award from the Surety Information Office. We were recognized for educating / promoting the surety industry at various functions throughout the State of Ohio. Numerous members were recognized for helping the Association achieve this honor.
Mitch Didante was a guest visitor from the ABC.
Eric Schmidt, Legislative Chairperson then gave an update. We have been unsuccessful fighting the City of Bedford License Bond Form that has performance guarantees. We will continue to fight this issue. Eric thanked the many members that sent letters to the City of Bedford. Briefly discussed an erroneous bond form / maintenance guarantee with the City of Wooster. More details to follow. We successfully defeated a 5-year warranty on the roof system on the London Correctional Jail job. Eric concluded by asking for participation from members with getting involved with these legislative issues.
Marc O. then announced the annual Golf Outing will be held in June ’04. He also announced the Scholarship application was available on the Web Site.
Marc then introduced our guest speakers which were Jim Walker from Westfield Surety Claims Counsel, Andrew Natale an attorney from Franz Ward LLP, and Bill Zollinger who is the President of R.V. Buric Consulting. This was a claims panel discussion with three case studies followed by a question and answer period.
Mac Leavitt resigned as the Social Chairperson during the 1 st Quarter. Jackie Christensen was appointed by the Board as the replacement.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:00PM. The next meeting will be the annual golf outing held in the Cincinnati, OH region in June ’04. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
